As your representative, one of my top priorities is making sure our community has access to safe, reliable drinking water. I want to share an important update about a project that directly supports that mission.
The Mission Canyon Pipeline and Pump Station Replacement project officially kicks off construction this week along Gibbel Road in the unincorporated area of Hemet, just east of State Street. This is a major infrastructure upgrade that will help improve water reliability for our area—and I’m proud to see it moving forward.
What’s This Project All About?
In simple terms, EMWD is replacing and relocating the Mission Canyon II Pump Station and installing about 3,200 feet of new pipeline to improve water flow and reliability.
This project will also eliminate aging, cross-country pipelines that are less efficient and harder to maintain. The old booster station will be demolished, and additional upgrades include:
Mission Canyon I Pipeline: 850 feet of new 12-inch PVC pipe
Pump Station Site Improvements: Civil, mechanical, electrical, and landscape work
Off-Site Improvements: 4,200 feet of 12-inch and 1,000 feet of 8-inch PVC pipe
New Pre-Fab Buildings: One for the pumping units and one for the emergency generator
Access road improvements, fencing updates, and valve renovations
Timeline and What to Expect
Construction is expected to continue through winter 2026. Most work will be done during the day, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., depending on the location. While there may be temporary noise, dust, or traffic delays, EMWD is committed to minimizing these disruptions and being a good neighbor throughout the process.
Funding the Future
I’m especially grateful to the County of Riverside for supporting this work through the American Rescue Plan Act. Their funding includes:
$255,000 for the Mission Canyon I Pipeline
$1,695,000 for the Mission Canyon II Pump Station Replacement
This is a great example of what can be accomplished when local and county agencies collaborate for the public good.
If you have any questions or concerns about the project, don’t hesitate to reach out. And if you’re seeing the work out on Gibbel Road, give a wave to the crews who are helping build a stronger water future for our community. Thanks for staying informed—I'll continue to keep you updated.
